Historical city walk through the heart of Woerden

If you are staying in Woerden and want to get to know the city better, you can take a historic city walk through beautiful Woerden. Among other things, you can take a look at the old mansions on the Haven, built between 1867 and 1870. The first house in the row is called Alpha and the last Omega. What is also highly recommended is a short walk down Rijnstraat. Until 1961, the Oude Rijn (Old Rhine) still flowed here. From Rijnstraat, you can walk to Woerden Castle. It is definitely worth taking a look there!

The Green Heart is characterised by polder landscapes, water, old Dutch towns, villages, farms and the many Dutch lakes. This area is a wonderful cycling paradise with many mysterious spots.

Silent boat trip

Cruise along on the awakening Nieuwkoopse Plassen in the early morning. We see the sun rise and we silently sail the whisper boat along the reeds. This is a special experience. While sailing on the Nieuwkoopse Plassen, you can hear nature waking up. Only the whistling birds and the water can be heard. At the end of the boat trip, you can enjoy a delicious breakfast at Restaurant Tijsterman, located directly on the Nieuwkoopse Plassen.

Kameryck – Pitch & Putt

Pitch&Putt is a sport played all over the world. Kameryck in Kamerik has an 18-hole golf course where the length varies from 30 to 70 metres. The great variety makes it accessible to everyone; even without experience.
Kameryck is located in Kamerik near a small pond where the Pitch&Putt holes are situated in the middle of the meadows.

Cheese Museum Bodegraven

At the Cheese Museum, you will learn all about farmhouse cheese making. Hundreds of objects, photos, old documents and films give a true-to-life picture of cheese making and what it involves. You will get a picture of milk production, butter production, the cheese market, the cheese trade and cheese storage. Authentic materials are used to set up a stable and a pre-war Gouda and Leiden cheese factory and cheese warehouse.

Museum De Heksenwaag

Visitors from all over the world have been coming to the Witches’ Weighhouse in Oudewater for about a hundred years. They stand on the scales and receive a certificate. This weighing took place as early as the 16th century. Back then, it was vital: people were accused of sorcery and ended up being burned at the stake. Emperor Charles V granted Oudewater the privilege of a fair weighing process as the only place in Europe. No one was ever condemned as a witch there.

City museum Woerden

Woerden City Museum is a small-scale and atmospheric museum. The permanent collection includes landscapes from the Green Heart of the Hague School and work by important Woerden artists. The upper floor is dedicated to Woerden’s Roman roots.

Fort Wierickerschans

Surrounded by circles of unprecedented size, Fort Wierickerschans passes through time. The slogan ‘Cherish Old Think New’ has applied to Fort Wierickerschans since 1673. Every moment the fort manages to adapt to the new times. Out of sheer necessity, Fort Wierickerschans was built in 1673 to prevent a repeat of the disastrous year 1672.

Windmill De Windhond – Woerden

Windmill de Windhond is a historical and valuable feature for the city of Woerden. De Windhond is a round stone mill built in Woerden in 1755. Today, the mill is well maintained and is an important part of the townscape. The mill stands on a Molenberg, which was originally part of a bastion belonging to the ramparts of old Woerden.

De Blauwe Meije

At Buitenplaats de Blauwe Meije, sculpting workshops are also organised and guided by Nel Overkamp. Besides the workshops, there is also a beautiful gallery and sculpture garden You can make reservations by phone or email.

Brouwerij De Molen

Brewery de Molen in Bodegraven consists of a food and beer bar open from Tuesday to Sunday from 12:00 and a beer shop open from Tuesday to Sunday from 12:00 to 17:00.

De Koffietuin (coffee garden)

In the middle of the green heart of the Netherlands is the museum De Koffietuin. In the village of Nieuwerbrug near Bodegraven, an old farmhouse with parts dating back to 1610 houses all kinds of coffee-related things. By appointment, you can book a guided tour of the showcases covering the topics: Roasting coffee, grinding coffee, brewing coffee and serving coffee.
